SMALL SUPPLIES UPDATE (for virtual students only) You will be in need of a few supplies that are outside of our standard at home school supply list for the weeks I see you April 12-30. Please get these materials as soon as you are able to and keep them in a safe space until we are ready to use them. I will be reminding you in class, but I wanted to let you know well enough in advance. - Styrofoam tray ( you can clean off and use the lid of a to-go food container, or purchase a stack of trays from the dollar tree for $1) - WASHABLE markers - it doesn't have to be Crayola, but it needs to say washable. These were on our original list, but please just make sure to have them on hand. Many kids have been using permanent markers in class, and permanent markers will not work for a particular upcoming assignment. - Air dry clay - You can purchase a small tub of crayola air dry clay from walmart for $6. If you are unable to get ahold of air dry clay, you can use play dough, but please be mindful that it is likely to crack and break easily. - Acrylic paint - a small selection of primary colored paint will be fine. Nothing large or expensive. Please note - if you have siblings in other classes 2nd grade - 5th grade, the tub of air dry clay can be shared between you. You can also share the pack of styrofoam trays if you purchase them from the dollar tree because they come in a pack of 30

It is ok for the colors to cross the lines and mix. Step 3- be sure to alternate watercolor choices for each section you paint. Notes: - Watercolor should be wet and light in color on your paper. Be sure you dip your brush into the water each time you need to add more color. - If you do not have watercolor paints, you can draw your lines with a dark color, and color in between each section with lighter colors. View the power point we used in class to view examples of lines as well as a step by step picture guide to the assignment.

For my virtual friends at home, here are the art supplies needed for this upcoming weeks art class (this was shared a few days ago on DOJO). Please have these items available for your child before class starts. I've also included a few prep ideas that will REALLY help students be able to keep up with the activity during art. You will need: - 2-3 sheets of construction paper - bottle of glue - styrofoam bowl (or a plastic bowl) - sponge brush or paint brush Prep ahead if time: - Cut the construction paper into 1 inch squares - mix glue with water to thin it out (mix about 2-3 tbs glue and 1 tbs water. You can mix it the morning of your class) - if using the styrofoam bowl, rub a thin layer of lotion inside the bowl. - if using a plastic bowl, line the inside with plastic wrap. Tape it down on the sides/bottom to keep it from coming out for the project. The intention of our activities is to complete them during your classes scheduled art class. It's important that materials are prepared ahead of time so your child can follow steps along with us in class. 1. Rub a thin layer off lotion in the styrofoam bowl. This will help the new paper bowl pop out once everything dries. 2. Use the glue/water mixture to apply a layer inside the bowl, on the bottom and sides. 3. Lay some of the construction paper squares in the bowl to cover all the glue 4. Add a wet layer of glue on top of the paper squares 5. Add MORE paper squares to cover the glue you just applied. 6. Repeat steps 4-5 until you have lined a few layers of paper inside your bowl. 7. When you have added enough paper to your liking, finish with one last thick layer of the glue and water mixture. This will help seal the bowl. 8. Leave the bowl to rest and dry for about 2 days. When fully dry, the new paper bowl should pop out of the styrofoam bowl, leaving you with your very own utilitarian (functional) art!

We will use these materials on your class's scheduled art resource day) |
